About Khula
Khula is situated in the centre of rural community with around 160 family homes, 2 local Primary Schools and 1 High School in the surrounding area. The nearest hospital is 23km away and the closest town is 43km away. In our community jobs are scarce and poverty and unemployemnt are common.
This is the social and geographical context of the community which Khula has been a part of more than 2 decades.
Khula is a safe place to nurture and guide children in a positive way so that they may reach their full potential.
As we enter our 16th year in operation as an established PBO, we are astounded at how
much we have expanded over these years.
Khula began with 14 children and 2 staff members in one room, and later growing to a small
Creche with 10 children and 5 staff members. Today, we have 9 ministries, 18 staff
members and over 500 beneficiaries. Much of this success is owed to the faithful support of
organisations such as the Albert Wessels Trust and Zulu-Aids-Hilfe e.V.
Today, we have extended our impact beyond just the children that come to Khula Community Centre every day. We work closely with the Department of Education, the local schools, South Coast Hospice and Government Mobile Clinics, in order to provide effective care for our children and their families. Through high-quality services offered, we are privileged to be able to impact the lives of children between the ages of 2 and 16 years old, which assists their families by keeping the children well-nourished, educated and healthy.
